Karla Camila Cabello Estrabao, born on March 03, 1997, is a singer and writer that was born in Cojimar, East of Havana, Cuba.
She was a former member of the popular girl group Fifth Harmony from 2012 until her departure in December 2016. Prior to leaving the band, she collaborated with Shawn Mendes in I Know What You Did Last Summer and Machine Gun Kelly in Bad Things. Both her solo projects were popularly recognized by listeners. She has also worked with famous artists like Pitbull, DJ Cashmere Cat, and J Balvin.
At the age of five, Camila, as what she likes to be called, moved permanently to Miami, Florida. Prior to this, she and her parents moved back and forth from Cuba to Mexico, her father’s homeland. Instead of celebrating her traditional quinceanera, she instead chose to audition for X-Factor, which brought her to where she is today.
The Family of Camila Cabello
Parents: Alejandro Cabello & Sinuhe Cabello Estrabao
Coming from pure Latina bloodline, Camila grew up with her parents fluently speaking Spanish. Her father, Alejandro Cabello, is a native of Mexico while her mother, Sinuhe Cabello (née Estrabao), is a native of Cuba. Sinu was born on December 25, 1968. Aside from Camila, the couple also has one more daughter.
Sibling: Sofia Cabello
Younger to Camila, Sofia or Sofi, was born on April 02, 2008. Unlike Camila, she was born while they were already in Miami, Florida. She appeared in one episode of AwesomenessTV when her Kaki introduced her to the world. Sofi refers to Camila as Kaki.
Camila auditioned for the X-Factor back in 2012 but her audition tape was never shown on TV due to licensing issues of the song R.E.S.P.E.C.T. Initially, Camila auditioned to the producers and got a callback that she could audition for the judges should the show have enough time. She got four “yes” responses from the judges but was eliminated in the second round of the boot camp after her sing off with Jordan Shane. She was then called back to the stage with Lauren Jauregui, Dinah Jane Hansen, Ally Brooke, and Normani Kordei. She, along with the others, were mentored by Simon Cowell and made it through the finals, winning the 3rd place.
Her group slowly made their way in the music world after being signed by both Epic and Syco Records. During her time with the band, they released multi-platinum songs such as Worth It, Bo$$, and Work From Home. She had two albums – “Reflection” and “7/27” – with the group. While in the group, she had also worked with Shawn Mendes and they released a song together.
On December 18, 2017, a day after their Jingle Ball 2016 performance in Miami, Fifth Harmony announced Camila’s departure. In their letter, they said “After 4 and a half years of being together, we have been informed via her representatives that Camila has decided to leave.” The announcement stirred the fandom after the “we said, she said” battle between her and the group.
Rise as Solo Artist
Camila was unstoppable after her departure from Fifth Harmony. She continued promoting Bad Things, her collaborative work with Machine Gun Kelly. She was also featured in Love Incredible, released on February 16, 2017 by DJ Cashmere Cat and Hey Ma by Pitbull and J Balvi, released on March 10, 2017, as a part of the official soundtrack of the movie “The Fate of the Furious.”
On September 2017, Camila is set to release her debut solo album “The Hurting. The Healing. The Loving.” She released her first single as a solo artist Crying In The Club on May 19, 2017. She then released the song I Have Questions soon after.

Relationships of Camila Cabello
Camila dated Austin Mahone when she was 18. On November 03, 2014, Camila confirmed her relationship with Austin in an interview on “Watch What Happens Live.” However, less than a month later, Camila admitted that she has, indeed, split with Austin.
Camren and Lauren Jauregui
Among the many rumored relationships of Camila is her assumed relationship with former band mate, Lauren Jauregui. The two met during their audition at X-Factor in North Carolina. Since then, they were noticeably close and endearing towards each other, making the fans ship them together as Camren. Despite her closeness with other band mates, especially to Dinah Jane, fans continue to make assumptions about her and Lauren’s secret relationship.
Camila is referred to as “Camz” by Lauren, who stated that while others call her “Mila”, she has her own nickname for her. They used to exchange sweet messages. One of Camila’s message to Lauren stated, “I love you. You’re one of my best friends and I feel like I’ve known you forever. You’re one of the smartest people I know and you’re stunning. I’ve learned a lot from you, just know I’ll always be here for you no matter what!” One of Lauren’s birthday messages to her was “I feel like you’re the sister God forgot to give me. I love you Camzi(: have a good one babe! 💙😘🎉🎈🎁💙#camren.” They both are fans of 1975 and attended the concert together.
Lauren has continuously denied being romantically involved with Camila, describing it as “invasive, scary, delusional, disrespectful to us both.” Lauren supported her statement with “you never quite become ok with people sexualizing you and your friendships for their sick pleasure” and nailed the coffin shut when she said that it “was never real…Ever.”
Friendship with Former Bandmates
Her 2017 singles have caught the attention of many and made people wonder as to who inspired her songs. In an interview, she has said that “it’s not necessarily about a boy” and that it is about a “relationship-friendship” and that she saw the person who inspired it in the studio where she was in. Rumors are brewing that this could be about her friendship with her former band mates, though she has not confirmed nor denied the issue.

Camila won her first award as a solo artist in June 2017. She was recognized as the “Best New International Artist.” Before that, she already shares 41 awards with Fifth Harmony and “Mashup!
