Jennifer Lawrence, academy award-winning actress, is famous for playing onscreen roles of Tiffany Maxwell in Silver Linings Playbook, Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games, and Rosalyn Rosenfeld in American Hustle. She currently lives in Santa Monica, California.
Jennifer Shrader Lawrence was born in Louisville, Kentucky. She has German, Irish, English, and Scottish ancestry. Prior to becoming an actress, Jennifer was involved in field hockey, softball, cheer-leading, and modeling. However, she only had passion for acting. Her career began, at the age of 14, when she traveled to Manhattan. After conducting her initial cold read, in order to convince her mother that Jennifer required to spend the summer in Manhattan, agents informed her that by a 14- year-old, it was the best cold read they had ever heard.
After leaving the agency, in the midst of shooting an H&M ad, Jen was spotted by an agent and asked to take her picture. That agent invited her to the studio, the next day, for a cold read audition. The agents were again immensely impressed and strongly requested her mother to permit her to spend the summer in New York City. She did, as destiny would have it, and subsequently performed in commercials like MTV’s my super sweet 16 and appeared in a movie, The Devil You Know.
Her career forced her whole family to move to Los Angeles. Shortly thereafter, she played a role in the TBS sitcom The Bill Engvall Show, and in movies including The Poker House and The Burning Plain.
Her mother, Karen Lawrence, controls children’s camp, and her father, Gary Lawrence, works in construction.
Jennifer has two elder brothers, Ben and Blaine.
From 2011 to 2013, she dated Nicholas Hoult, her X-Men co-star. She was in an on-and-off relationship with Chris Martin, her Coldplay co-star, which ended in 2015.
Jennifer got her big break in the movie Winter’s Bone in 2010 in which she played the role of Ree. Before she starred in Winter’s Bone, she took hunting lessons as she wanted to make her role seem real. Her performance landed her Golden Globe nominations and Academy Award. In 2011, she got the role of Mystique in X-Men: First Class. Around this time, in 2012, Lawrence secured the most vital role of her career when she was cast as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games, movie adaptation of literary sensation. The Hunger Games became one of the highest-grossing movies ever with more than $407 million at the domestic box office, and immediately propelled Jennifer to the A-list among young actresses.
Jennifer, at the age of 20, became the second youngest actress, when she was nominated for Best Actress for the Academy Award. She is also famous for playing the villain Raven Darkhölme in the film X-Men: First Class.
Lawrence wrote an essay, in 2015, which was featured in a feminist newsletter Lenny. Her essay was based on her disappointment of earning less than her male co-stars. Via the Sony hacking scandal, she discovered that she was paid less than her male co-stars. However, in her essay, she ultimately blamed herself as she didn’t negotiate for more pay.
